The Scientific Citizenship Initiative (SCi) at Harvard Medical School works with students, educators, and communities to identify critical issues, challenge norms, and uphold a scientific culture that supports inclusivity, equity, cooperation, and service. The team focuses on the following three areas in its approach:
(1) providing STEM students with the training needed to become effective leaders of change, (2) supporting faculty with resources to enhance mentorship and elevate their own classrooms, and (3) studying science culture and best practices to bolster our scientific institutions.
SCi uses a phased approach to curricular and programmatic design. SCi’s approach entails scoping, developing, piloting, refining, and exporting new products. This phased approach ensures input from diverse expertise and programmatic efficacy, uptake, and accessibility
