In the Spring of 2022, the first cohort of the National Science Foundation (NSF SMRP) was established as a result of the NSF Historically Black Colleges and Universities Undergraduate Program Target Infusion Program (HBCU -UP) grant. HBCU-UP provides awards to strengthen STEM undergraduate education and research at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). NSF SMRP was launched as a way of reimagining the delivery of undergraduate research. This was an online research course that was accessible and effective in delivering undergraduate research opportunities via the learning management system (LMS), Canvas, for students seeking an opportunity. The Canvas course was a “one-stop” shop for delivering undergraduate projects and with its guidelines.
